This is a very rare issue with MS Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010. When sending or forwarding an email with embedded pictures, the receiver will get the email but the pictures are not shown.
The receivers have checked that their email programs were allowed to download and view images. Did this happen to you?
Imagine this scenario:
- You are using MS Outlook 2010 (or 2007).
- You receive emails from your office colleagues containing embedded pictures. The pictures show up nicely in your Outlook 2010/2007.
- You now decided to forward the emails “with” the embedded pictures to your son and to your daughter.
- Your son is using Outlook 2003. Your daughter is using Outlook 2007.
- Your daughter is able to receive your email and the pictures display just fine.
- Your son in Outlook 2003 is able to receive your email but the embedded pictures are missing! Not one picture showed up!
- Then you concluded, “My Outlook 2010 must NOT be the source of the problem since since my daughter received the email and the pictures just fine”.
- You started to investigate your son’s Outlook 2003. You made sure that it is set to download images automatically. You even deleted the OutlookSecureTempFolder registry key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security as a described solution by bloggers and Microsoft.
- The problem still continued. All pictures from your forwarded emails are not showing up in your son’s Outlook 2003 but showing up perfectly in your daughter’s Outlook 2007.
- You got another hint. You asked your daughter to forward the email with the embedded pictures to your son. Bingo! The embedded pictures are now showing up!
If you have had this scenario, it is then time to conclude that the problem is with your Outlook 2010 (or 2007).
Again, this is not a common issue so only few people can relate or even read this post. To solve this problem, you need to do something in your Outlook 2010 (or 2007) that affects a specific contact. That is, the problem is with a specific contact only, NOT the entire MS Outlook software! In the scenario above, you need to reconfigure your son’s email account in your Outlook 2010.
- Open MS Outlook 2010 (or 2007), whichever is affected.
- In the bottom left panel, click on Contacts to show your address book.
- When the contacts are shown, locate the problem recipient. This is referring to the person who is not getting your embedded pictures correctly. In the scenario described above, it is your son’s address book entry. Also, you choose the Business Card layout under Current View to display your contacts in business card format.
- Double click on the selected contact to open its actual contact file or entry in the Address Book.
- Then double click on the email address in the Email field.
- This will give you a small context menu. Click on the “Address Book” icon in the context menu, that says “View more options when interacting with this person” when you hover the mouse pointer.
- In the pull-down menu that appears, click on Outlook Properties.
- In the small pop up that appears, check the selection set for Internet Format. The problem can be caused when it is set to “Send using Outlook Rich Text Format“. Click and select the option “Let Outlook decide the best sending format“.
- Click OK to close. Now, when you send this person emails with embedded pictures, the images will now be displayed.
