Have you been using Google Chrome when you browser websites or emails? Indeed, Chrome is one of the widely used and the fastest web browser that is free from Google. Besides being free and fast, it has cool features and add-ons to make your web surfing a better experience.

The default behavior of Chrome is that, when you open it, it will not show any home page. Instead, it will show you a blank new tab. Basically, the page is not blank since it is showing Google as your default search engine and your previously visited websites below the search box. However, the URL or the website address is blank and you cannot find anywhere in the Chrome interface to put just your preferred website every time you open Chrome or a new tab.

Setting up Home Page

In Chrome, it is easy to set up a home page. However, Chrome has an option to show this home page or not when opening Chrome. Therefore, if you have a home page set, and Chrome is set to show a blank new tab when opened, the hoem page will never be shown unless Home button is clicked.

To setup a Home page in Chrome, here are the steps:

  1. Open Chrome and click on the settings icon (3-horizontal line) then click on Settings
  1. In the Settings page, “On startup” group of options, there you can set the behavior of Chrome when it is opened. To set a home page, select the third option and set the page you want.
  1. You can close the Settings tab and when you open Chrome, you shall get the home page that you just set.

Setting a Different URL for New Tabs

However, when you open a new tab in Chrome, what you will get is a blank URL box with Google page. The steps that follow will show you how to just override the defaults and set a custom or preferred URL every time you open a new tab.

  1. There is no settings in the Chrome interface to do this. This feature is made possible using a free Chrome Add-on.
