Since Internet Explorer is intertwined or part of any Windows computers, most of the times, installation of Windows updates and any other system changes affect the behavior of the Internet Explorer (IE) web browser. Also, as you are using the IE browser, accumulated “temporary internet files” and installed plugins or add-ons cause IE to break and become utterly useless.
In this case, the very first step to resolve the issue is to reset the IE settings back to defaults. Here are the steps:
IE Reset: Option 1 (if IE still opens normally)
- Exit all other open programs or windows
- Launch Internet Explorer
- Click on Tools menu. (If the menu bar is not shown, press the ALT key then the menu bar shall show up.)
- Click on Internet Options
- In the Internet Options dialog box that opens, click the Advanced tab
- Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset.
- Then in the message that pops up, click Reset button again to confirm the action.
- When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box.
- Start Internet Explorer again.
IE Reset: Option 2 (if IE won’t open)
- Click Start => Control Panel
- Locate and click to open Internet Options (If you do not have the Internet Options listed, locate the “View by” selection and see if it is set to Category. Click on it then select SMALL ICONS.
- When the Internet Options dialog box is shown, click on the ADVANCED tab
- Look for the RESET button at the bottom part and then click on it.
- Another window will pop out, click on RESET in that window.
- Click on Apply
- Click OK to close
- Test Internet Explorer again
If the problem is not resolved after the reset procedures, it would be helpful to restart the computer then do the RESET procedures again.
