Switching between Google Chrome's Windows 8 Mode

Google Chrome is known to be the fastest browser in the planet. It is also free so a lot of people are using it and it is present in millions of internet-capable devices out there. For desktop and laptop computers, the look and feel of Google Chrome is similar by default.

However, with the newest release of Google Chrome in Windows 8 computers, there is another mode called "Windows 8 Mode". This sets apart from the older version or the classic mode of Google Chrome as this Windows 8 mode looks very similar to the Chromium app.

Here is the classic mode of Google Chrome:

As you can see, Google services like the Apps button, Google Chrome, Gmail, Google Docs, and Youtube are all listed in the lower left corner of the app screen.

Switching Between Google Chrome Modes

There is only one location where you can switch between the classic and the Windows 8 mode of Google Chrome. If one is selected, it will be set as default so every time you open Chrome, it will open in the selected mode.

For instance, if you do not change this mode and just leave your Chrome in its default state, you will be using the desktop or the classic mode. Once you switch to the Windows 8 mode, it will open in Windows 8 mode in the future, unless you change it back to classic or desktop mode.

To switch between modes, here are the steps:

  1. Open your Google Chrome browser
  2. Click on the settings button that looks like a three horizontal line icon at the end of the address bar.
  3. If you are currently using the classic or desktop mode, click Relaunch Chrome in Windows 8 Mode.

  4. If you are currently in Windows 8 mode and you do not like it and you want to restore to Chrome's original or default settings, click on the settings icon (labeled 1 above) and click on Relaunch Chrome on the Desktop.

That is all there is to it. You can easily switch now between Chrome's desktop or Windows 8 mode.
