When you are using a Hotmail email account and you are using the prominent Google Chrome browser, you might have experienced some common issues in viewing or accessing your Hotmail messages.

The truth is that, Hotmail and Chrome browser have some incompatibility issues. And the ost prominent problem caused by this incompatibility thing is that emails in your Hotmail won’t launch or open normally inside Chrome like it would in other browsers like Firefox or Safari.

If you are using Chrome to access, send and receive emails with your Hotmail account, and all of a sudden your emails won’t open, here are the things that you can do.

A. Clear your Google Chrome Cache and Temporary Internet Files

For the detailed procedures in removing cached data and outdated temporary internet files in Google Chrome, please go to this article.

B. Disable your Chrome Plugins/Add-ins/Extensions

Chrome plugins or add-ons affect your Chrome behavior. In the event of a browser issue, you can try disabling your Chrome extensions temporarily to test if the extension is causing the problem.

In order to temporarily disable your Chrome extension, please do the following:

  1. Open your Chrome browser.
  2. Click on the Chrome menu as shown below:
  1. Then point to Tools menu then click on Extensions.
  1. In the list of extensions, you can check it to Enable, or you can click on the trash can icon to delete the extension. I suggest that you UNCHECK all extensions to DISABLE them. After that, test your Hotmail if it works normally this time.

C. Uninstall a Recent Windows or Software Update

When your Windows is configured to automatically install update, you might have noticed that when you shut down the computer, updates are being installed. In most cases, these updates are good. But in some cases, these updates are the sources of problems because they cause other installed software to misbehave.

Therefore, when your computer is acting up, try to uninstall the most recent updates, restart the computer, then test if the Hotmail + Chrome problem is gone.

To uninstall Updates, go to Start => Control Panel then open Windows Updates. In the lower left corner of the dialog box, click on “Installed Updates” link to show you all installed updates sorted by date and software category.

See Installed Updates in Windows 7

For Windows 10, you can open Control Panel => Programs and Features then click on View Installed Updates on the left panel.

Uninstall all of the recent updates, those updates that are installed before the problem occurred that indicates that the updates could be the cause of the problem. Restart the computer, then test your Hotmail again.

D. Perform a System Restore

System Restore will not affect your files. It will only restore your computer’s system files back to a saved “state” know as restore points. When you do System Restore, choose a restore point which is dated back to the time and date when this problem has not yet occurred.

How to Run System Restore in Windows 7/Vista/XP

  1. Navigate to the Start => All Programs => Accessories => System Tools program group.
  2. Click on the System Restore program icon.
  3. Click Next => on the Restore system files and settings window.
  4. Choose the restore point that you want to use. You should use the restore point with a date when you still don’t have the Hotmail problem you are facing now.

Important: You need to check the Show more restore points checkbox to see more than the most recent restore points available in your system.
