This article will show you various ways to repair Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010. The screen shots provided will be for MS Office 2007 or 2010 though other earlier or later versions may still be applicable.

These are just the basic steps to repair erratic behavior of your MS Office software:

A. Repair Through Control Panel

When "many" or "most" of your MS Office programs like MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Outlook are experiencing problems in opening, saving or in simply using them, the best initial troubleshooting step is to repair the entire MS Office suite using the repair option in the Control Panel. However, when only one of the MS Office software is mis-behaving, then it is logical to repair only the problem software.

Step 1: Close all MS Office program windows to ensure that no MS Office programs are running before initiating the repair. If you are using MS Outlook, it may be running in the background, so please ensure that it is closed.

Step 2: For Windows XP, click on Start => Settings => Control Panel => Add/Remove Programs. For Windows Vista and newer versions of Windows, click on Start => Control Panel => Programs and Features.

Step 3: In the various list of installed programs, locate MS Office 2007 or 2010, whichever version is installed in your system.

Step 4: Click on the MS Office item listed there and click on the Change command at the top. If there is a Repair command at the top, click on it instead of the Change command.

Step 5: Then follow the on-screen procedures of the installation wizard to repair the selected software. In the end of the process, when you are prompted to restart the computer, restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Step 6: After the restart, test your MS Office software and see if the issues you encountered are corrected.

B. Using Microsoft Office Diagnostics

Another way to fix common problems encountered by most MS Office programs is the use of the Microsoft Office Diagnostics tools. There are two (2) ways to access this tool for MS Office 2007. For MS Office 2010, only one access option is available.

The first option to run the Diagnostics tool for MS Office 2007, is through using any of the MS Office programs first, provided that there is still an Office program that is still working. For instance, open MS Word 2007.

Click on the MS Office orb or button then click on Word Options. If you are using MS Excel or PowerPoint, the procedure is still the same in order to get the Options dialog box
