There are several settings in MS Excel that you can turn on and off any time. Some of these settings affect how the entire Excel program behaves while some others affect only the specific file where the settings are turned on or off.

This is the scenario.

You are working in Excel and you decided to add a row or a group of rows. Boom! The error appeared. You tried to add a column or a group of columns and the same error appeared.

What Caused This Error?

In most cases, this error is caused by a certain setting in MS Excel, specifically, the setting of the Display options for this workbook option to Nothing. This will hide all objects that triggers this error.

How to Resolve This Error?

  1. Open MS Excel and open the file that is having this problem.
  2. In MS Excel 2007, click on the circular MS Office Logo, then click on Excel Options button.

  3. If you are using Excel 2010, click on File then click on Options.
  4. In the Excel Options dialog box, click on Advanced link in the left panel.
  5. Scroll down to the middle part and locate the group called "Display options for this workbook"
  6. At the bottom option that says "For objects, show:", click to select on ALL.
  7. Then click OK button.
    The option called "Display options for this workbook" set to display ALL

 

After clicking OK, you shall now be able to ADD rows and columns normally.
